Graphics

I once tried to make a map for Half-Life. The game was shipped with an editor named 'Worldcraft' which looked to me like a piece of classic 3D software. And it was. I spent several hours with it and decided to bury the project. Why? Well, even if I would have finished the level after two weeks or so, it would not have been good at all. Too much input, too few output.

The Re-Volt track editor is one of the most intuitive tools I've ever worked with! On one hand this is great: I got into it after 15 minutes and the tracks compile in 2 minutes time. What a great way to improve your track building ability and not worry about polygons and splines! On the other hand this forces everyone to build tracks and release them to the community - most of them are quite good. This encouraged me to give my tracks a 'special note' which sets them apart from the others: the graphics.

Storing the textures in simple bitmaps was the best idea Acclaim could have. Now I could throw in all my abilities as a graphic designer and enhance the look of my tracks by far. And even if you have nothing to do with graphics, you should give your tracks your own mark and edit some custom artwork!
